Myokinetics Class Requirements

The good news is that no expensive tools are required!

All that is needed for these exercises, is either a 'king-size' pillowcase or similar sized towel. If the towel is too large or too small, the effects will not be satisfactory. (An inflexible ‘stretch-strap’ may be used as an alternative).

NB Although 'flexbands' are a very effective form of alternative 'stretch' tools, unfortunately they do not create enough resistance for the Myokinetics technique, and are not suited to 'Myokinetics'.

For those wishing to learn techniques for self massage, and release of muscle tension, two tennis balls inserted and tied inside a large ‘sports sock’ are very effective. Some of the techniques describing their use, are demonstrated on the 'Myokinetics for the Dancer' DVD.

The DVD extends for approx 42 minutes and it includes an instruction booklet. The program runs twice ... giving the option of voice-over instruction, or 'run-through' with music. There are examples of  injury prevention self-help techniques, as well as choreographed 'Myokinetics' exercises. Also included is a meditation segment which is an invaluable creative tool for the dancer.
